My 4th Summer Bike

So as it turns out I now have my fourth bike of the summer.     About 4 or 5 days after I bought the 125 dollar Walmart bike, I found a used trek bike in a bike store for 150 dollars.    With granny gears!     Getting it was a no brainer.  6 weeks left here at the time.  That's a lot of days and prospective miles.   The trek bike has made the 1.5 mile climb (2 miles total) from Jill's house to the local Starbucks and my morning coffee much more tolerable.  The Walmart bike with only 7 gears was - doable - but a lot harder.

So now I have two bikes here in Prescott.    This has changed my plans a bit, because now I want to get a bike rack for the trek and bring it back to Bandon with me.   The Walmart bike I have only ridden 2 or 3 times, so it still looks brand new, and will be a suitable gift to Jill and Joe when I leave.     They are not serious riders, nor is anyone in their family that I am aware of,  so it will be fine for them, however they decide to use it.

I have taken 8 trips into town so far, and probably spent 300 dollars on the two bikes, a helmet and a bike lock.  Everything to me comes down to math, so let's see, carry the 1, divide by 8, so I am at about 37 dollars and change for each trip so far.  I still have another 5 weeks here in Prescott until heading back to Bandon, so I should be able to make a sizable dent in that.    I am aiming for at least 15 trips at least, getting the cost down to 20 a trip, so I should be able to get there.

 100313 Veinte 3 skinny people waiting for their coffee   20 in Spanish.     I know only snippets of various languages.   I can count to 10 in French, and Danish (Danish from old girlfriend, who also taught me a nursery rhyme),  I spent a Boston summer trying to learn Russian back when I drove a cab and found that most of the cab drivers were Russian.   I would stand in the Logan airport cab drivers's cafe and listen to them talk.     After a couple of months of working with 3 by 5 flash cards, I got to a point that when I listened to them I could catch the odd word here and there, but not really understanding anything.  Still, catching individual words from the constant streaming sound chatter of a foreign language is a foundational start. I did take 3 years of Spanish in high school, so I know Spanish more than anything else.   Knowing some Spanish is helpful in America, and specifically living in the west...
